Avalonia® Trademark Guidelines

Version 1.1, effective as of 5 February 2026

The Avalonia trademark and related Avalonia logos are owned by AvaloniaUI OÜ (Avalonia UI) worldwide (the "Avalonia trademarks"). The Avalonia trademarks are valuable assets which Avalonia UI wishes to protect.

Trademarks are used to provide assurance to the public of the quality of the products and services with which the trademark is associated. They must therefore be used properly and consistently. These guidelines govern use of the Avalonia trademarks by Avalonia UI and by third parties, in order to protect the value of the Avalonia trademarks and to provide guidance on how the Avalonia trademarks may and may not be used.

Unauthorized use of the Avalonia trademarks, or confusingly similar marks, which does not comply with these guidelines is prohibited and may constitute trademark infringement. These guidelines do not interfere with your right to use, modify, or distribute Avalonia open-source software as permitted under the applicable software license terms.

1. FAIR USE

In certain circumstances, when marks are used for the purpose of description or identification, use of the mark constitutes "fair use" because it does not suggest sponsorship or endorsement by Avalonia UI and is not being used in a manner likely to confuse users. Such use is permitted, would not constitute trademark infringement, and does not require a trademark license.

The purpose of this section is to describe what constitutes fair use of the Avalonia trademarks. If you are unsure whether your proposed use of the Avalonia trademarks qualifies as fair use, please contact us before using the mark at [email protected] with the subject line Trademark Usage Query.

Use of the Avalonia word mark to make factual statements about Avalonia software, Avalonia-compatible software, or Avalonia UI may constitute fair use, for example:

1.1 To specifically refer to Avalonia software products or the Avalonia project using the Avalonia word mark.

1.2 To truthfully state that your product or service is created using Avalonia, designed for use with Avalonia, or compatible with Avalonia, provided that the Avalonia name is not used in a way that suggests sponsorship or endorsement and is not used as part of your project name, product name, package name, service name, company name, domain name, social media handle, or other identifier.

1.3 To refer in articles, books, tutorials, reviews, training materials, or other editorial or educational content to Avalonia software, the Avalonia project, or Avalonia UI, provided that such use is factual and non-misleading.

1.4 To describe tools, integrations, templates, extensions, or plugins intended for use with Avalonia in descriptive text, such as "ProjectName is a Figma importer for Avalonia." If the tool is only capable of being used with a specific version of Avalonia, the version number should be stated where relevant.

1.5 To use the visually unmodified Avalonia logos or other approved brand assets only in the limited manner expressly permitted by the Avalonia brand guidelines published by Avalonia UI.

Fair use in conjunction with applications, services, and tools is allowed for users of both open-source and commercially licensed Avalonia. Fair use does not override any of the prohibitions listed in Section 2. If your intended use falls within Section 2, it is not permitted without Avalonia UI's prior written approval.

Any use of the Avalonia trademarks outside the fair use provisions above, including any use of "Avalonia" as part of a project, product, package, repository, extension, company, or service name, requires Avalonia UI's prior written approval and may require a trademark license.

2. PROHIBITED USE

Without limitation, the following uses of the Avalonia trademarks are not permitted without Avalonia UI's prior written approval where approval is stated to be required:

2.1 Use of the Avalonia logo, Avalonia word mark, or other Avalonia brand assets in any manner other than as allowed under the fair use provisions described above, without an express written license where required.

2.2 Use of the Avalonia trademarks in a manner that is false, misleading, deceptive, disparaging, denigrating, or otherwise detrimental to the Avalonia trademarks, the Avalonia project, Avalonia UI, or their products or services.

2.3 Use of the Avalonia trademark in conjunction with your company name or another name without express written permission. This includes, without limitation, project names, product names, package names, plugin names, extension names, repository names, service names, publisher names, organization names, marketplace identities, and developer account names.

2.4 Use of the Avalonia trademarks as the whole or part of your domain names, subdomains, or vanity URLs without express written permission.

2.5 Use of the Avalonia trademarks as meta tags or in metadata in a manner that implies official affiliation, endorsement, or ownership by Avalonia UI.

2.6 Use of the Avalonia trademarks as part of your company name, trade name, business name, or logo without express written permission.

2.7 Use of the Avalonia trademarks in a manner that suggests endorsement or sponsorship of your products or services, including by more prominent use of the Avalonia trademarks than your own marks or product name.

2.8 Use of the Avalonia trademarks on the cover of a book or publication without an express written license.

2.9 Use of the Avalonia trademarks on promotional or marketing materials, including posters, brochures, signs, event pages, sales pages, or websites, to promote your events, products, or services without express written permission.

2.10 Alteration of the Avalonia trademarks in any way, including modifying logos, combining the mark with other words or symbols, translating the mark, transliterating the mark, abbreviating the mark, or creating confusingly similar variants.

2.11 Attempts to assert any ownership rights in the Avalonia trademarks, including attempts to register the Avalonia trademarks or confusingly similar marks as trademarks, company names, domain names, social media handles, package identifiers, or other source identifiers anywhere in the world.

2.12 Use of the Avalonia trademarks for forks, redistributions, wrappers, repackaged binaries, or modified versions of Avalonia software in a way that suggests that such software is an official Avalonia release or is endorsed by AvaloniaUI OÜ.

2.13 If you distribute a fork, hard fork, wrapper, redistribution, repackaged binary, or modified version of Avalonia software as a separate product, package, extension, tool, or service, you must not use the Avalonia trademarks in the fork's product name, package name, repository name, assembly name, default namespace, root namespace, extension identifier, CLI command, installer name, marketplace listing, or other public-facing identifier without express written permission from AvaloniaUI OÜ.

2.14 Limited reference to Avalonia is permitted only where reasonably necessary to make a factual statement of compatibility, interoperability, or origin in descriptive text and only where such reference does not appear as part of branding or as part of a public-facing identifier.

Naming Rule for Licensed Uses

Avalonia UI does not consider use of "Avalonia" as part of a project or product name to be fair use.

If Avalonia UI grants written approval for a multi-part project, package, or repository name, the approved form must place the distinct project identifier first and the Avalonia reference second, for example ProjectName.Avalonia.

Names that begin with the Avalonia mark, such as Avalonia.ProjectName, Avalonia ProjectName, or similar leading-brand constructions, will not be approved.

3. GUIDELINES FOR USE OF THE AVALONIA TRADEMARKS

Use of the Avalonia trademarks, whether under the fair use provisions described above or under a separate trademark license agreement, must comply with the Avalonia brand guidelines published by Avalonia UI.

The following rules apply to all usage of the Avalonia trademarks:

No Possessives: Since a trademark is not a noun, it must not be used in possessive form. For example, do not refer to "Avalonia's framework"; instead refer to "the Avalonia framework" or "Avalonia software."

No Plurals: Since a trademark is not a noun, it must not be used in plural form.

No Verbs: Since a trademark is not a verb, it must not be used as a verb.

Use the Exact Mark: Always use the mark in its exact form with the correct spelling. Do not abbreviate it, hyphenate it, translate it, transliterate it, or combine it with other words except as expressly approved in writing by AvaloniaUI OÜ.

Distinguish the Avalonia trademark from surrounding words by capitalization, quotation marks, italics, bold text, or another clear typographic distinction where appropriate.

Avoid All-Caps Forms: Do not restyle the mark as AVALONIA except where a specific graphic standard approved by AvaloniaUI OÜ requires it.

Proper Trademark Attribution: Users of the Avalonia word mark must include an attribution that Avalonia is a registered trademark, for example by using Avalonia® on first use in a text and including a legend stating that Avalonia is a registered trademark of AvaloniaUI OÜ.

The ® symbol should be used upon the first use of the mark in any text, even if the symbol has already been used in a heading or other prominent location. It is not necessary to repeat the symbol on every later use in the same document. However, the symbol should be used on first occurrence within sidebars, charts, tables, graphs, or slides where those elements may be viewed independently.

The trademark legend need not be prominently displayed on physical packaging and may instead appear in product documentation, terms, an about page, or at the bottom of a web page, provided it is legible.

The following is an acceptable legend for materials referencing the Avalonia trademark:

"Avalonia is a registered trademark of AvaloniaUI OÜ."

If the material referencing the Avalonia trademark also refers to other third-party trademarks, a general ownership statement such as "All other trademarks are the property of their respective owners" is acceptable in addition to the Avalonia legend.

4. NO WARRANTIES

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, AVALONIAUI OÜ DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, WITH REGARD TO THE AVALONIA TRADEMARKS.

IN PARTICULAR, NOTHING IN THESE GUIDELINES SHALL BE CONSTRUED AS A REPRESENTATION, WARRANTY, OR PROMISE BY AVALONIAUI OÜ THAT ANY USE OF THE AVALONIA TRADEMARKS WILL NOT INFRINGE THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY THIRD PARTY.

ALL USE OF AND RELIANCE ON THE AVALONIA TRADEMARKS UNDER THESE GUIDELINES IS AT THE SOLE RISK OF THE PARTY USING THE MARKS, UNLESS A SEPARATE WRITTEN TRADEMARK LICENSE EXPRESSLY PROVIDES OTHERWISE.

5. QUESTIONS

If you have questions regarding these guidelines, wish to report misuse of the Avalonia trademarks, are unsure whether your intended use requires a trademark license, or wish to request a trademark license, please contact AvaloniaUI OÜ at [email protected] with the subject line Trademark Usage Request.

6. UPDATES

AvaloniaUI OÜ reserves the right to update or amend these guidelines at its discretion at any time by posting updated terms on its website. Unless a shorter period is required by law or to address urgent misuse, material updates will normally be announced with at least 30 days' notice before taking effect.
