Avalonia stays open.
Accelerate is how we fund it.

Avalonia stays open. Accelerate is how we fund it.

Free for small teams. No asterisk.

Free for small teams. No asterisk.

The core Avalonia framework is and will always be MIT-licensed. Accelerate is commercial tooling built on top of that foundation, and it's how we fund a full-time engineering team to keep the framework stable, performant, and moving forward.

Accelerate was designed as a commercial product. We could have left it there. Instead, we created a free Community tier because we didn't want cost to be the reason a small team or an independent developer couldn't access the tooling. If your organisation has fewer than five developers using Avalonia and turns over less than €1M, you get the developer tools at no cost. You can ship commercial software with it. The account confirms you meet those criteria so we can keep this tier genuinely free rather than becoming a loophole for large organisations that should be paying.

What we collect and why

What we collect and why

The Community tier includes telemetry. We made the implementation open source so you can read every line yourself. Here's what it collects:

Tracked telemetry data:

Build Timestamp

IDE

IDE Version

Avalonia Version

OS Platform

Architecture

Tool Version

Anonymous machine identifier

Your Avalonia account stores the details you provide at sign-up and records your licence activation. This is how we verify Community tier eligibility and ensure large organisations aren't using the free tier in place of a commercial licence.

A letter to the community

Why we're asking you to create an account

We know this is a sore point. Asking developers to sign in before using tooling feels like it cuts against everything open source stands for, and we've heard that feedback clearly.

Here's the situation we were actually facing: Avalonia is in production at companies of every size, and maintaining a framework at that level takes a funded, full-time engineering team. We needed to find a model that's fair to the engineers building Avalonia and honest about the value it creates for organisations that depend on it. Without that, there is no Avalonia. No open-source project that isn't bankrolled by a mega-corp survives on vibes and community goodwill alone.

The account is how we tell the difference. If you're a small team, you get the tools for free and you stay on your way. If you're a larger organisation building revenue on Avalonia, we're asking you to pay for the commercial tooling that supports your work. That's the whole model.

We'd rather be upfront about that trade-off than dress it up.
