Overview

Our Moat

We've dedicated a decade to building the core technology behind our products, a significant undertaking due to its complexity. Only large companies, such as Google, Microsoft, Apple and Qt, can afford to develop this type of technology. It is not common to see new entrants into the UI space due to the complexity of the domain.

Once companies adopt our technology, the time and expense required to switch creates powerful 'stickiness.' Developers invest heavily in Avalonia, and the applications they create will likely be maintained for the next decade.

Development

We develop all our technology ourselves and do not outsource any of the development of our products. However, we do depend on third-party technologies such as Skia from Google and .NET from Microsoft.

Our core platform's open-source nature, along with the contributions of our 450+ dedicated OSS contributors, significantly reduces development costs. This collaborative approach to building Avalonia provides a skilled talent pool and fosters a sense of community ownership.

Products

Avalonia XPF was our first commercial product, a cross-platform fork of WPF, which enables enterprises to effortlessly take their WPF applications to Windows, macOS, and Linux, with iOS, Android and the Browser partially supported. We enable significant cost savings and reduced time to market, solving a real pain point for organisations who have heavily invested in WPF.

Our primary target market encompasses the >600,000 actively developed WPF applications, with the target to convert 6% of these into paying Avalonia XPF customers.

Our sales strategy focuses on Enterprise licences, priced at €35,000. This licence includes one year of support and updates, providing customers an option to renew after the first year. If they opt not to renew, they retain a perpetual license for the last version availablewhen the license expired. Given our target customers are large enterprises who value technical support, we expect low churn rates.

Support Agreements

We provide commercial support agreements to help developers using Avalonia. This includes technical support for troubleshooting and bug fixes to ensure success for those building with Avalonia. We provide this service to Unity Games, Outsystems, dSpace, Sonova and more. Support Agreements accounted for approximately 32.17% of our 2024 revenue.

Bespoke Development Services

We have consciously favored smaller, targeted projects over more long-term, involved projects. This decision has allowed us to focus on initiatives that contribute to the improvement of our open-source projects. Approximately 70% of the custom development work we did resulted in PRs that improved Avalonia, to the benefit of the whole communtiy.

As we look ahead to 2025, we will maintain our selective approach to project work, prioritising collaborations that align with our goals. Additionally, we will continue to connect our customers with experienced technical partners like UXDivers for more comprehensive, long-term projects.
