The Avalonia trademark is owned by AvaloniaUI OÜ.
These guidelines help our community use the Avalonia trademark properly while maintaining the integrity and reputation of our brand.
"Avalonia" is a registered trademark of AvaloniaUI OÜ in multiple jurisdictions:
United States: Reg. No. 7419382 (registered June 18, 2024)
European Union: No. 018880316 (registered September 8, 2023)
China: Reg. No. 72125099 (registered December 7, 2023)
These registrations cover computer software platforms, development tools, and related services in International Classes 9 and 42.
Company Name: Avalonia UI (or AvaloniaUI OÜ)
FOSS Project Name: Avalonia
This distinction is critical:
"Avalonia" refers to the open-source UI framework and may be used according to these guidelines
"Avalonia UI" refers exclusively to our company and may NOT be used without explicit written permission
These guidelines ensure that:
Users can clearly identify official Avalonia products and services
The community can reference Avalonia without causing confusion
No confusion exists between community projects and the Avalonia UI company
The quality and reputation associated with Avalonia is maintained
Use "Avalonia" to accurately refer to the official Avalonia UI framework
State that your product is "compatible with," "for," or "built using" Avalonia
Use Avalonia in factual statements about your product's relationship with our framework
Include Avalonia in educational content, articles, and tutorials
Reference "Avalonia UI" only when specifically discussing the company
Use "Avalonia UI" or "AvaloniaUI" in any product, package, or service name
Imply official endorsement, sponsorship, or affiliation with Avalonia UI (the company) without written permission
Use Avalonia in a way that suggests your product is an official Avalonia product
Distribute modified versions of Avalonia under the "Avalonia" name
Use Avalonia or Avalonia UI as part of your company name or brand identity
Register trademarks that include "Avalonia," "Avalonia UI," or confusingly similar variations
Create any impression that your product or service is tied to the Avalonia UI company

You may not register domain names that:
Contain "Avalonia" as the primary identifier (e.g., avalonia-something.com)
Could be confused with official Avalonia domains
Suggest official affiliation with AvaloniaUI OÜ

Similar rules apply to social media usernames and handles. Do not create accounts that could be mistaken for official Avalonia accounts.
The Avalonia logo may only be used with explicit written permission
Do not modify, distort, or recreate the Avalonia logo
Do not incorporate the Avalonia logo into your own logo
Use the ® symbol with the first or most prominent mention: "Avalonia®"
Include attribution: "Avalonia is a registered trademark of AvaloniaUI OÜ"
Always write "Avalonia" exactly as shown (capital A, no modifications)
Do not use as a verb ("Avalonia-ing")
Do not use as a plural ("Avalonias")
Do not abbreviate or create acronyms
If you create a modified version or fork of Avalonia:
You must use a different name entirely
Clearly indicate it's a derivative work
Include appropriate attribution to the original Avalonia project
Do not use "Avalonia" in the name of your fork
For commercial products and services:
You may state compatibility with Avalonia
You may not suggest your commercial offering is endorsed by AvaloniaUI OÜ
Consider reaching out for partnership opportunities if you're building significant commercial tools
"MyApp is built using the Avalonia UI framework" (describing the technology)
"Professional themes for Avalonia applications"
"Learn Avalonia development with our course"
"MyToolkit.Avalonia - Extensions for Avalonia apps"
"As mentioned on the Avalonia UI blog..." (referencing the company)
"Avalonia Professional Tools" (suggests official product)
"AvaloniaUI Control McControlface" (uses company name)
"Avalonia UI Toolkit" (uses company name for a product)
"AvaloniaUI.ControlMcControlface" (namespace using company name)
"We are the Avalonia experts" (implies endorsement)
"Avalonia Plus" (modified version using our name)
"Official Avalonia UI Partner" (without actual partnership)
Any use of "Avalonia UI" except when referring to the company itself
We actively monitor trademark usage to protect our community from confusion.
Our approach prioritises amicable resolution while maintaining our right to protect our trademark and reputation.
We will contact you directly to discuss the issue
We provide a minimum of four (4) weeks to resolve the matter amicably
We work with you to find a solution that works for everyone
Only if we don't hear back or cannot reach a satisfactory resolution within four weeks will we proceed with formal action
Takedown requests to package repositories or hosting platforms
Legal action where takedown requests are not applicable
We reserve the right to skip directly to takedown requests or legal action when we believe:
The violation is intentionally designed to cause harm
Users are being deliberately misled or defrauded
The violation poses immediate risk to our reputation or users
The infringement appears willful and malicious
In such cases, we will seek immediate injunctive relief and pursue all available legal remedies to protect our trademark and reputation.
