The Avalonia® trademark is owned by AvaloniaUI OÜ.
These guidelines govern all use of the Avalonia trademarks worldwide. They are intended to protect the integrity of our brand and the trust of our community.
“Avalonia” is a registered trademark of AvaloniaUI OÜ in multiple jurisdictions:
United States: Reg. No. 7419382 (registered June 18, 2024)
European Union: No. 018880316 (registered September 8, 2023)
China: Reg. No. 72125099 (registered December 7, 2023)
These registrations cover computer software platforms, development tools, and related services in International Classes 9 and 42.
“Avalonia” refers to the open-source UI framework and may be referenced under these guidelines.
“Avalonia UI” / “AvaloniaUI OÜ” refers exclusively to the company. Use requires explicit written permission.
These guidelines exist to:
Ensure users can clearly identify official Avalonia products and services.
Prevent confusion between community projects and Avalonia UI.
Maintain the quality and reputation associated with Avalonia.
These rules apply worldwide regardless of where a project or user is based.
You MAY:
Use “Avalonia” to accurately refer to the official Avalonia framework.
State that your product is “compatible with,” “for,” or “built using” Avalonia.
Include “Avalonia” in factual educational content, tutorials, or articles. Educational use must be descriptive and non-misleading. You must not brand courses, books, or certification programmes as official without written permission.
Reference “Avalonia UI” only when specifically discussing AvaloniaUI OÜ, the company.
You may not:
Use Avalonia or confusing variations in your company name, partnership, foundation, or organisation.
Incorporate or register a legal entity (Ltd, GmbH, Inc., Foundation, etc.) using Avalonia trademarks.
You may not:
Translate or transliterate “Avalonia” or “Avalonia UI” into another language or script for any project, brand, or organisation.
You may not:
Register or use marks, names, or symbols that are confusingly similar (e.g., Aval0nia, Avalonya, Avalon.io).
Imitate Avalonia logos, colours, or trade dress.
You may not use Avalonia or confusing variations as:
Your publisher name on any marketplace or platform.
Your developer account name.
Your organisation/team identifier.
Your username on package repositories.
This prohibition is absolute and not subject to fair use.
If you fork or repackage any Avalonia project (framework, tooling, extensions, libraries):
Exception for Contribution Forks:
If your fork is created solely for the purpose of contributing back to the upstream repositories and you do not distribute or release your fork as a separate package, product, extension, or executable, you may retain the Avalonia name during the development and pull request process.
Hard-Forks
For all other forks, wrappers, and derivatives which would be commonly referred to as a 'Hard-Fork' (for example, creating your own UI framework based on Avalonia code), you must:
Choose a different name entirely.
Not use Avalonia trademarks in names, packages, namespaces, or marketing.
Include a clear disclaimer in prominent locations:
"This project is an independent derivative of Avalonia technology and is not endorsed by AvaloniaUI OÜ."
This applies to installers, redistributions, wrappers, or repackaged binaries that are distributed or released independently of the upstream project.
You may not:
Register domains or subdomains containing Avalonia trademarks.
Use social media handles with Avalonia trademarks.
Register vanity URLs (avalonia.dev, avalonia.app, ava.link, etc.) without written permission.
You may not:
Use Avalonia trademarks in app store tags, NuGet metadata, SEO tags, or paid ads.
Hashtags may be used in community discussion but not to mislead users about official affiliation.
You may not:
Use Avalonia trademarks in the name of conferences, meetups, or events without written approval.
You may not:
Use Avalonia trademarks in contracts, agreements, lobbying, or regulatory filings to imply partnership or endorsement.
You may not:
Use Avalonia trademarks in names of hosting, SaaS, cloud, training, or certification services.
Use Avalonia trademarks in crowdfunding campaigns, subscriptions, token sales, or financial products.
If your project uses Avalonia trademarks:
It must be marked clearly as unmaintained if abandoned.
Ownership may be required to be transferred to AvaloniaUI OÜ.
You may not sell or transfer such projects to third parties without AvaloniaUI OÜ’s consent.
You may not:
Claim false adoption metrics for Avalonia.
Present your product’s usage as official Avalonia statistics.
Mislead by borrowing Avalonia download/adoption numbers.
You may not:
Name vulnerabilities using Avalonia trademarks without coordination.
Imply that issues in your project are vulnerabilities in Avalonia itself.
You must follow responsible disclosure when issues relate to official Avalonia products.
You may not:
Use Avalonia trademarks in AI model names, chatbot identities, or automated assistants.
Create bots claiming to represent Avalonia.
Use Avalonia marks in AI training datasets in ways that imply endorsement.
You may not:
Use Avalonia trademarks in comparative advertising unless the reference is truthful, non-misleading, and non-disparaging.
You may not:
Exaggerate contributions to imply endorsement.
Claim ongoing status as “core team” or “maintainer” without authorisation.
Reserved:
NuGet packages beginning with “Avalonia.”
NuGet packages beginning with “AvaloniaUI.”
Extension IDs beginning with “avalonia.” on Visual Studio Marketplace.
Unacceptable:
Any namespace, package, or repo name implying official ownership.
Anyone using Avalonia trademarks must not:
Contain malware or malicious code.
Violate laws or regulations.
Fall below reasonable quality and security standards.
Be used for illegal or harmful purposes.
Use names, branding, or marketing that includes profanity, sexual references, discriminatory language, or other content that could damage Avalonia's professional reputation.
Misrepresent their relationship with or endorsement by AvaloniaUI OÜ.
You may not:
Place Avalonia marks on T-shirts, mugs, stickers, or promotional goods without written permission.
Permitted only if:
Non-commercial.
Clearly identified as parody.
Commercial exploitation under parody is infringement.
These guidelines apply to all uses of Avalonia trademarks, including prior use. Violators have 30 days from publication to comply.
Upon notice of violation, you must preserve all related documents and materials. Destruction of evidence will be treated as proof of willful infringement.
By using Avalonia trademarks under these guidelines, you agree to indemnify AvaloniaUI OÜ against any claims arising from your use, including attorney’s fees.
AvaloniaUI OÜ may pursue:
Injunctive relief.
Damages.
Reimbursement of legal costs and attorney’s fees.
Trademark disputes are excluded from arbitration and may be pursued in any competent court.
All rights not expressly granted in these guidelines are reserved by AvaloniaUI OÜ.
We actively monitor usage of Avalonia trademarks.
Good faith misuse: we will attempt contact and allow 30 days for resolution.
Willful or harmful misuse: we may act immediately, including takedowns and legal action.
Bad faith: repeated violations or attempts to circumvent rules will be treated as deliberate infringement.
Permissions granted may be revoked at any time at AvaloniaUI OÜ’s sole discretion.
