Avalonia XPF - License Changes

February 7, 2024

We're excited to announce an update to the licensing of Avalonia XPF, our cross-platform WPF that enables Windows-only apps to run on new platforms!

When we announced Avalonia XPF early last year, we opted for a "per-app, per-platform" licensing model. While we included Windows as a complimentary platform, those seeking to support macOS and Linux required two licenses. We understand the initial "per-app, per-platform" model, while offering flexibility, presented challenges for some of our customers. Today, we're excited to let you know that we're simplifying the licensing.

Introducing a Unified Licensing Approach:

Gone are the complexities of multiple licenses for a single app! With the new streamlined approach, a single Avalonia XPF license unlocks all supported desktop platforms – Windows, macOS, and Linux. This simplifies the licensing and delivers remarkable cost savings, reducing the licensing expenses by 50% for those seeking to take their WPF app to both macOS and Linux!

A Commitment to Enhanced Value:

This licensing change reflects our commitment to providing exceptional value to our customers. By including all desktop platforms in a single license, we are significantly increasing the return on investment from adopting Avalonia XPF, making cross-platform WPF development more cost-effective.

What's next?

We're working to enable Avalonia XPF to run on iOS, Android and WebAssembly and expect to be ready for early preview later in the year. In the meantime, if you want to try Avalonia XPF for Windows, macOS or Linux, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial.
